Nowadays, increasing the shooting rate becomes a crucial training program in basketball teams as shooting is the sole scoring way in basketball matches. With the ultimate goal as getting good shots, players should be trained to master right shooting skills and have acute perceptions via setting up realistic goals and using special equipments.A three sided rotary shooting training machine is used in this experiment, having a tapered base embedded with an inbuilt rotating motor. Above the base, there is an upright rotating strut driven by a motor. The upper end of the strut is connected with a regular prismatic rebounding box, having three backboards on its three sides, which is able to rotate clockwise or anticlockwise with variable speed at intervals. A set of rim is fixed on each backboard, which can be shifted by a remote control.Participants in this study are 12 basketball specialized students from Xi’an Institute of Physical Education majoring in physical education. All of them used the three sided training machine to improve their shooting skills. Before the experiment, they had been tested for three-point shot percentage. Then, they went through an eight-week shoot-around via using that machine. This study adopts the methods of literature review, interviewing experts, experimentation, mathematical statistics and logical analysis. Participants’ 3-pointers been tested before and after the experiment, some of whom are chosen for two index tests of shooters’ perception. The following three conclusions can be drawn based on an independent analysis of experimental results as well as the T-test analyses.First, the comparative analysis of participants’ performance before and after the experiment reveals that three-point shooting rate has improved significantly after the test with a remarkable significance (P<0.01).Second, the two perceptual indicators of participants changed after the experiment, among which, the indicator of grip accuracy of all participants differed significantly. Besides, the indicator of visual depth increased among most experimental subjects. The visual depth indicator of individual subjects did not change significantly. The main reason is that the change of visual depth indicator is a slow process, which may not significantly happen in limited training. In addition, each participant has disparate perception ability, whose developing levels and improving space are totally different, which leads to this phenomenon.Last, conducting shooting practice via the three sided rotary shooting machine can help athletes improving their three-point shot percentage and also enhancing parts of their perceptual ability. Promoting the use of this machine can not only change the traditional mode of shooting training, being both simple and boring; but also may help players effectively achieving their goals in a scientific way, which will be of great assistance in the experimental research of professional athletes at high levels.
