New Standard English advocates a student-centered instruction, and, requires instructors to create more chances for students to experience the process of reading. Unfortunately, at present some English teachers ignore the ideological content and the overall structure of reading material. Students passively accept linguistic knowledge. Accordingly, on the basis of PQ4 R reading strategies, the learning-guided instructional mode aims to solve that problem. This thesis attempts to explore the classroom effectiveness of English reading in junior high school in the light of PR4 R learning-guided reading instruction.Within the framework of constructivism theory, meaningful learning theory, the study has involved the interview, questionnaire and experiment, and has come to the conclusions as follows: 1) Junior high school students have a strong interest in English reading, and expect their instructors to design various teaching activities to improve their English reading ability. Though most instructors recognize the importance of PR4 R learning-guided reading instruction in English reading teaching, they are lack of necessary theoretical guidance for this instructional method. 2) PR4 R learning-guided reading instructional method can effectively improve junior high school students’ English reading scores in tests. 3) PR4 R learning-guided reading instructional method can effectively improve students’ comprehension of the factual information in the reading, language induction, and meaning guessing as well. 4) PR4 R learning-guided reading instructional method is recognized most by the students below average, because this instructional process enables them to have sense of achievement and satisfaction.Because of my limited theoretical knowledge in PQ4 R learning strategy, learning-guided instruction, and because of my limited practical experience in instruction, there are some problems in the study that need further consideration. For example, the author needs to review more bibliography and collect more data to meet the scientific and objective requirements of the thesis. What’s more, the author had better share this reading instructional method with colleagues so as to improve the effectiveness and feasibility of PQ4 R learning-guided reading instructional method. In conclusion, the author hopes to have a more effective reading method to help students in need, which renders reading a "pleasant reading".
