Chemistry is a laboratory-based science, taking on the heavily difficult task of training students’scientific literacy. Scientific inquiry is a vital activity, and chemistry experiment is an important way to carry out scientific inquiry in the process of compulsory education. The experiment as an indispensable content of chemistry teaching is the foundation of chemistry teaching in junior middle school. The effective implementation of chemistry experiment teaching in junior middle school, not only is advantageous to the chemistry teachers to improve teaching efficiency and students to deepen the learned chemistry knowledge, but also is more conducive to student to learn the general method of science inquiry, and promote students’thinking ability, operational capacity, observation, expression and so on. The aim of this paper is to understand the current situation of chemistry experiment teaching in urban junior middle school in Harbin through the methods of questionnaire and interview, with reference to the feedback, to explore the strategies of optimizing the chemistry experiment teaching on the basis of the chemistry experiment teaching and from the perspective of the new curriculum reform concept, all of these have some guidance for improving the effectiveness of chemistry experiment teaching.This thesis is divided into six chapters altogether:the first of all it is about the introduction, which points out the background, aim and significance for researching, roughly analyzes the actuality of chemistry experiment teaching at home and abroad in detail, and also outlines the main content and research methods. The following chapter roughly summarizes the contents and features of experiment in the courses in junior middle school, generalizes the position and function of chemistry experiment in middle school chemistry teaching and briefly introduces the commonly used teaching modes of chemistry experiment. The third chapter is the core of this thesis about the chemistry experiment teaching, by using the time when region chemistry teachers focus on the teaching and research weekly, selecting teachers and students respectively as the respondents from class A, class B and class C in three different types of urban junior middle school in Harbin, in view of construction and management of the lab, teachers’ awareness of the importance of teaching chemistry experiment or the improvement of chemistry experiment teaching or students learning and so on, teachers and students are investigated by questionnaires and interviews for reaching out rigorous statistics and analysis of the survey results, the present situation of the chemistry experiment teaching in urban junior middle school in Harbin is basically understood. The fourth chapter is to point out the problems and reasons in detail, through seriously analyzing and thinking about the survey results of chemistry experiment teaching in urban junior middle school in Harbin. Contrary to the current situation and problems of chemistry experiment teaching, the fifth chapter is respectively making a few strategies for optimizing chemistry experiment teaching to the department in charge of education, schools and teachers themselves. The sixth chapter is the conclusion which sums up the important factors affecting the chemistry experiment teaching in urban junior middle school in Harbin and strategies of optimizing the chemistry experiment teaching, at the same time points out the shortage of this study.
