A Study On Independent Colleges’ Transformation Development To Vocational Education

With the acceleration of higher education from the late 1990 s, local undergraduate colleges in our country have been rapidly developing. At the same time, how to serve the local economy better in Personnel training respect become a key issue. Hence, educational bureau brings forward a strategy decision, which is changing the local undergraduate college into vocational education. Independent colleges, a secondary school of undergraduate colleges which has emerged in the early 1990 s, are important educational institutions for normal undergraduate education. Just like local undergraduate colleges, independent colleges need reform and innovation to survive in the developing situation. Otherwise, they would lose its competition in homogeneity. Based on the background, this article gives some ideas of Independent colleges’ transformation development to vocational education.This paper uses research method to analyze 15 independent colleges of Hunan Province, Sichuan province and Zhejiang province. By examining statistics on research result, the article analyses the problems of independent colleges, such as confusion of position in objective and ways for talent cultivation, unreasonable structure of teaching staff, serious homogeneous phenomenon in teaching mode and method, weakness of students’ creativity and practical ability, etc. From the initial stage to the development period of independent college, it has adopted the ideas of running college from Parent University. Today, in the situation of a much more refinement market and a more embodied requirement of talent, that method has been proved to be wrong and not consistent with the objective laws. The independent college is facing a new round of survival pressure. Under the new environment the transformation of vocational education is imperative.The paper makes an exhaustive study on the transformation, which has focused on four parts---- the personnel training objectives, training four aspects, independent school conditions and teachers. It believes that high-level independent college should makes accurate position in talent target of ability and technical students. The teaching mode should combine its own “application type" characteristic. College running must pay attention to foster students’ individuation and practical ability. Meanwhile, it also should develop independent teachers and intensify the building the structure of double- professional teachers. Based on the above analysis, the article brings forward some personal views on how to guarantee the transformation of independent colleges from four aspects---- strengthen government guidance and regulation; increase the fund’s investment to expand multifaceted, multi-channel cooperation among independent college, secondary vocational schools and higher vocational school; promote in – depth talents technologization and the theoretical research of practical training, hopes to provide some feasible suggestions for the transformation of vocational education in independent college.
