In terms of population, Liaoning province is mainly composed of Han national groups and supplemented by minorities. In 1987, the total number of residents in Liaoning was about 35.72 million, of which 2.91 million were from minority nation, accounting for 12% of the total population. According to the fifth national census statistics(2000), the total population in Liaoning reached about 42.38 million, of which 6.79 million were from minority groups, taking up for 16.02% of all residents in this province. Whether their music culture and education can be “assimilated” and give play to the influences as a kind of national music culture, and whether the features of national music teaching are still intense when it is confronted with Han culture “with a vast territory” despite the increasing percentage of minority people increases are the main problems that the paper focuses on.The paper enumerates on the topic from perspectives of music education, psychology of music, values of music and social music in the following aspects. The whole paper is divided into four parts(except the introduction part). The first part mainly states the background of music teaching in primary and middle schools in minority ethnics in Liaoning. This part aims to clarify the general trend of music education in minority nation. After all, all minority national music teaching should conform to the theme of contemporary music education. Besides, it is of important referential significance for investigation analysis in the third party and rectification suggestions in the fourth part. In addition, this part also introduces the origin of Kazuo, a minority group in Liaoning Province, historical evolution and national musical culture in detail. Via a lot of methodologies, including questionnaire, visit survey and literature review, the paper conducts an investigation into primary and middle school students’ cognition of national music in Kazuo from four aspects, including feeling and appreciation, representation, creation and music culture as well as relevant knowledge. Additionally, from three aspects, respectively theoretical fundamentals of national music, teaching objectives and notion of music teaching, nationality of music curriculum design, the author carries out a survey into primary and middle school teachers’ ability of teaching national music in Kazuo, attempts to grasp the main structure of music teaching in Kazuo, reveal the teaching conventions and tendency of national music teaching in Kazuo, Liaoning Province, and conducts an investigation into campus environment creation from the formation of material and cultural environment on the campus. The third part analyzes the problems in national music teaching in primary and middle schools in Kazuo through music education and music teaching methodology and other relevant knowledge. The fourth part delves into the problems in national music education in primary and middle schools in Kazuo and corresponding reasons as well as proposes the solutions.
