On the basis of analyzing the connotation, components of extracurricular experiments ability and characteristics of extracurricular experiments, It has built an assessment framework of the chemical extracurricular experiment ability, and developed a corresponding PTA assessment scale. Through the microscopic analysis of videos on students’chemical extracurricular experiments, it has evaluated the students’extracurricular experimental ability, which can provide inspiration and reference for future chemcal experiment teaching and the classroom teaching.This study adopted literature analysis, questionnaire survey, video analysis, paper-pencil test and PTA scale method to comprehensively evaluate students’ chemical extracurricular experiment ability, including the major parts as follows:The first part:Construct the assessment framework based on the connotation, components, and characteristics of students’chemistry extracurricular experimental ability, through amounts of literature research, combined with experts’and teachers’ opinions, focusing on the whole extracurricular experiment process, it defined the basic elements of middle school chemical extracurricular experimental ability, namely the experimental preparation, experimental operation, experimental expression, experimental evaluation and reflection, which provided a basis for the further research.The second part:Evaluation and comparison of students’chemical extracurricular experiment ability. Using the designed PTA Scale to assess students’ pre and post chemical extracurricular experiments ability and compare students’ performance differences in each element of the extracurricular experiment ability. The results showed that students performed better, and their chemical extracurricular experiment ability was greatly improved, and more balanced in all ability elements.The third part:The impact of the chemical extracurricular experiments on students’chemistry learning attitude and study level. The research illustrated that the practice of chemical extracurricular experiments had a positive influence on students’ development in chemistry learning.All of the results have well proven that the roles that chemical extracurricular experiments played in student chemistry learning. It also provided new ideas and perspectives to enhance students’ experiment ability and give full play to the function of chemical experiments teaching.
