As a teacher, we should not only have the teachers’ ethics, but also have the corresponding professional quality. English teaching in Primary school is different from other subjects,it has its own particularities. It opens late, correspondingly, its importance is not enough. In 2001, with the promulgation of 《The English curriculum standard of full-time compulsory education of ordinary senior middle school 》(experiment draft) and the beginning of a new round of curriculum reform, the primary English subject was formally incorporated into the national curriculum. In 2005 Y city fully opened English in elementary school. At that time, there were many problems, the most prominent problem was the lack of professional teachers. Now the English course of primary schools in Y city has experienced 10 years, although there has been a noticeable improvement, still exists some problems. More and more English major graduates join in the teacher recruitment, as a budding young teacher, they lack education teaching experience. How to adapt the changes in the environment as soon as possible, adapt the change of roles and improve professional quality is very important. Induction stage of the beginning teachers is a key period of teachers’ professional development. A large number of studies have shown that the problems in the induction period of the beginning teachers’ professional development is more difficult than teachers in other stages. A research on beginning English teachers’ professional development will be beneficial to the improvement of teachers’ professional quality,which has practical value.This study is bases on the reading of the relevant research literatures at home and abroad, studies of the definition and the teachers’ professional development stages, the current research situations at home and aboard, foreign language teachers’ professional development and other related knowledges, investigates the professional development of 109 beginning English teachers from primary schools in Y city.This paper includes the following aspects:First, study the researches of teachers’ professional development and try to expand to primary English teachers’ professional development.Next, find out the main problems through anglicizing the questionnaire and interviewing data, and analysis the reasons.Finally, propose proper improvement suggestions in order to improve the beginning English teachers’ professional development and the teaching level of Y city.
