It has been five years since "Compulsory geography curriculum standards (2011)" put into practice, which clearly indicates the local geography is a part of the geographical teachings in unior high school.Local geography textbook should be included in the writing of local curriculum development plan, and effectively implement.But the actual teaching in Xinyang,found that there is no relative classes and activities in a part of schools.Learn more about that,the main reason is not specifical for local geography there is no clear teaching content.The lack of local geography textbook make it difficult to fully implement that is "Compulsory geography curriculum standards (2011)",is not conducive to develop the students’ ability of geographic practice, is unfavorable to the cultivation of students local cognition and native emotion,is not conducive to the students after further study geography. Developing geography textbook of Xinyang has important theoretical and practical significance.Firstly, the author gives clear distinctions in the definition of "locality", "local geography", "geographical textbooks", "geographical textbooks of locality", through literature research and expounds in detail the geographical science, the teaching theory as well as the theory of propagation.Secondly,Using questionnaire survey, the author makes a survey of teachers in some Junior high schools in Xinyang city and understands the teacher’s basic information in the region, teachers’understanding of local geography, local geography teaching resources and present situation suggestions of developing geographical textbooks, etc.In order to prepare the first hand information for the development of local geography textbooks in the local area.Thirdly, the author explores from four aspects, respectively are textbooks structure, instance developments, contents developments and present forms.Finally the author gives one sample chapter and main conclusions, namely "Compulsory education geography curriculum standard (2011)" promulgated, Xinyang area did not develop new local geography textbook, local geography teaching has not fully in accordance with the "compulsory education geography curriculum standard (2011)" execution, the situation in urgent need of change.The scope of the books should be based on the city and county. It is appropriate that the special structure and special theme are adopted in the textbooks. The contents should highlight the regional features and the way of presentation should keep pace with the Times.
