The high school is a critical stage for students’ development in which English reading teaching is the core of four English sub-skills including listening, speaking, reading and writing and a strong support for a high English level. As a result, training students’ reading skills and making them develop good reading habits in high school is one of the links that should be paid more attention to by educators. For the English reading teaching, traditional teaching method cannot meet students’ individual needs any more, which demands that teachers should make some difference in the teaching method. The flipped class teaching model converts the teaching procedure in traditional class. Through the autonomous learning materials, students can learn new knowledge after class by themselves and interact with the teacher and classmates in class, which gives them more chances to express themselves. This thesis selects the junior students in high school as the research subject and tries to research two questions: one is the current situation of English reading teaching in high school; the other is the effects of the application of flipped class on high school students’ reading ability. Before the experiment, the author understands students’ English reading situation through questionnaire one and interview and their English reading ability through the pre-test. The flipped class teaching model is used in the experimental class, while the traditional teaching model is used in the control class. After the experiment, the author understands the teaching effects of flipped class through questionnaire two and students’ English reading ability through the post-test.Through three-month experiment and the analysis of SPSS, it reveals that students’ reading ability in the experimental class is improved, while students’ reading ability in the control class is not improved. Thus, it can be concluded that the application of flipped class teaching model in high school English reading teaching is helpful in improving students’ reading ability.
