Painting therapy after nearly sixty years of development, has been see as an effective psychological treatment method by scholars in modern Western countries. painting therapy is widely used in the areas of psychological counseling, clinical treatment & rehabilitation, personal growth, school education, and so on. Today, painting therapy as an excellently effective psychological treatment method, which is approved worldwide, is gradually being introduced into the school mental health education.In this study, the researcher make a junior high school’s grade one and two students take the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale test. Through the test, selected the students of low self-esteem as subjects, and engaged with group painting intervention and individual painting intervention to different subjects. Individual interventions as well as group intervention are run for ten weeks, once a week. After ended the intervention, make all the subjects take the posttest of Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale. Finally do data statistics and analysis by SPSS. The results can be seen from the data, after painting group interventions, pre-intervention and post-intervention, the self-esteem level between the experimental group was significantly, while the self-esteem level between the control group was not significant. Before the intervention, the difference of the self-esteem between the experimental and control groups were not significant; after the intervention, the level of self-esteem in the experimental group was significantly higher. After painting individual intervention, pre-intervention and post-intervention, self-esteem level between the experimental group was significantly, and the sore of the post-intervention was significantly higher than the pre-intervention, but there was no significant difference between the control group before and after the intervention.In this study, a typical case and its intervention process also presents in the part of individual intervention.In this study, through the presents of specific intervention methods and intervention process, attempt to clarify the mechanism of action and the feasibility of painting therapy in psychological intervention to junior high school students in low self-esteem, to interpret the different characteristics and skills of intervention when painting therapy applied to groups and individuals, to provide a referenced project of painting therapy for mental health programs in school.
