Higher education is an important way to accumulate human capital and it ’ s an important part of the strategy of developing and strengthening the country through science and education. To set up the concept of the coordinated development in regional higher education and to insist on it is the inevitable choice to promote and realize the healthy development of our country’s economy and society, and plays an important role in the development of the whole country. By researching the current situation of the coordinated development of regional higher education in China and analysis of existing problems has the great significance to promote the overall sustainable development of society.Based on the connotation of the coordinated development in regional higher education,construction of the index system, and assessment methods, with principal component analysis method of development efficiency index and adaption index of regional higher education by using SAS statistical software, describe the development level of regional higher education in our country. According to the results evaluate the situation of China’s30 provinces and 10 regional economic geography of higher education coordinated development.In the study, the overall situation in China is good, east area just like Beijing and Shanghai are in a high degree of cooperation; some parts are lack of the adaption between higher education and economic society, three provinces in the northeast of China fall behind in the level of the development in the economic society and have an existence of higher education overstepping development, Hainan Province is in over behind in higher education; the gap of coordination between the regional higher education development is too large, such as north China and northeast region; higher education in central and western regions coordinated development are good, but the overall level of development is a little low.Finally, the paper researches and makes a summary of the existence problems of the coordinated development in regional higher education and puts forward four suggestions:make a clear positioning, enhance the awareness that higher education has to serve the regional economic society; increase the education investment, reduce the arrears between the central and western China and the east China; base on the local conditions, optimize the allocation of resources to promote the coordinated development in regional higher education; have the complementary advantages, strengthen the reform and linkage,promote the coordinated development of higher education between regions.
