Education has been playing a very important role in the development of society.Teachers not only play the most important part in improving the quality of education but also carry the glorious mission of continuing the social civilization. However,with the development of society, the phenomena of job burnout have appeared in the filed of education. Teachers’ burnout seriously affects their physical and mental health,then causes decline in the quality off education. Therefore, teachers’ job burnout has become a problem that can not be ignored.However, compared with other professions, the researches on job burnout of English teachers in senior high school are few. The present study aims to explore the overall burnout level of high school English teachers and its related factors.Accordingly, the following research questions are put forward: What is the overall job burnout among high school English teachers? What are the related factors of high school English teachers’ burnout?The research aims to answer questions with the methods of questionnaires and interviews. The research analyzes 83 high school English teachers from 5 different senior high schools in Changsha with descriptive statistics, and does the demographic analysis on teacher job burnout. The research findings are summarized as followings:1) Senior high school English teachers suffer from burnout, while their burnout is not very serious. They undergo a moderate level of emotional exhaustion and a low of depersonalization and reduced personal accomplishment.2) Teaching experience and professional qualifications are two main influential factors on the job burnout of senior high school English teachers. Teachers with 6 to10 years of teaching experience and teachers with junior second degree are generally experience a higher level of burnout compared with other teachers or teacher groups who get the same individual variable.3) No significant difference is found between groups of gender, age, education degree, marital status, school category, graduating class or not and head teachers or not. But male teachers suffer higher burnout level than the female; young English teacher whose age is between 31 and 40 is suffering more serious job burnout compared with other age groups; teachers with Master degree are suffering from relatively more serious burnout than teachers with Bachelor degree; married teachers are liable to suffer job burnout than single teachers; In addition, teachers from keyschool suffer a little higher degree burnout than those working in ordinary school;teachers in graduating class are apt to suffer job burnout compared with teachers teaching non-graduating; head teachers in general suffer higher degree of job burnout than those who are not head teachers.
