STS is an abbreviation of three English words, which are Science, Technology and Society. It has been put forward in 1920s.And a strong ideological trend has been formed in the process of foreign scientific research and scientific education reform during 1960s and 1970s.This kind of educational thought has inspired some universities and high schools to start this education reform since it’s introduced into China in 1980s.STS education, in essence, is a new-type integration of science education, which is for adapting to the challenges of contemporary social development and the new trend of development of science and Technology (i.e. the integration of science, technology and social knowledge system), improving the people’s scientific quality, promoting the further deepening of the reform of science education. And it implements on students, focusing on the complex relationship between science, technology and society and the application of science and technology in social production, life and development. Although the STS education is widespread as a new education thought, and has included in the idea of new curriculum reform, There are still no special STS courses in most of the primary and secondary schools. In the traditional discipline curriculum, it also did not pay attention to the effective penetration of the STS theory, and the related STS activities are also extremely limited. That is why the author trying to infiltrate the thoughts, contents and methods of STS education during the chemistry teachingThe thesis, starting from the development process and the comprehension of STS education, focuses on theoretical thinking and practical exploring how to implement the STS education in middle-school chemistry teaching. It’s divided into the following four parts:In the first part, it makes a brief introduction of the background and significance of this research, the development process of STS education and a descriptive definition of the relevant core concepts.In the second part, it makes a theoretical analysis on the implementation of STS education in middle-school chemistry teaching, focusing on the existing problems during the middle-school chemistry teaching. And combined with the thought of STS education, it sets forth the necessity and implementation way of STS education in the middle-school chemistry teaching etc.In the third part, it makes a practical exploration on the implementation of STS education in middle-school chemistry teaching. Based on the actual investigation, it grasps the present situation of the middle-school chemistry teaching, points out the gap between the present mode of middle-school chemistry teaching and the mode of STS education. And then through the full display of two teaching cases to illustrate the approaches, procedures and methods of implementation of STS education are analyzed during the middle-school chemistry teaching.In the fourth part, it presents the conclusion and reflection of STS education in middle-school chemistry teaching. It briefly introduces the research conclusion and reflection, the dilemmas, the causes and the solutions of the implementation of STS education in middle-school chemistry teaching.
