The design of main questions is one of the innovative ways to ask questions. It can produce an artistic effect of one question equivalent to more in reading instructions. In this paper, we firstly analyze the background of the design of main questions objectively using methods of literature investigation, case analysis and text analysis, point out the deficiencies of designing questions in the current reading instructions and the work that Yu Yinchao has done from theoretical and practical aspects, and we give a detailed exposition about the significance of the main question’s connotation and design connected with relevant monographs of Yu Yinchao. Then, we elucidate the principles and techniques for Yu Yinchao to design the main question concretely from the points of text, student and class according to its characteristics in the form, structure and content. In the end, in view of the existed problems in main question’s design, we propose effective strategies to improve it together with the art of questioning in class by expert teacher Menglong Qian. From our studies, the design for main questions by Yu Yinchao in reading instructions has a broad prospect of developments and it can help the teachers strengthen the emphasis on the ways of questioning in reading teaching and improve the forms of questioning and contents, so that the Chinese classroom becomes more orderly, tactful and effective.
