This article chooses the "New Century Cup" Composition Contest as the study object, analyzes and summarizes theory of the composition contest by a series of information, and explores the revelations that the "New Century Cup" Composition Contest theory to routine school teaching of composition in combination with its main problems.This article can be divided into three parts. The first part is a general description of the "New Century Cup" Composition Contest including a brief history of the contest, characteristics of drafting title and criteria. The second part is a summary of the "New Century Cup" Composition Contest theory, it can be summarized as selecting material in life, human-based ideas and expressing ideas in detail. The third part combines the "New Century Cup" Composition Contest theory with routine school teaching of composition. Firstly, it analyzes main problems in routine school teaching of composition, namely, value the significance instead of interest, value the content instead of form, value the tradition instead of innovation and value argument instead of narration. Then, it will receive revelations from the "New Century Cup" Composition Contest theory, and look for the proper solutions, namely, strengthen interest and water down the significance, more form and less content, focus on innovation and break the bonds of convention, strengthen narration and decrease argument.
