The Research of Qinghai Province on the spatial and temporal evolution of highway accessibility and population distribution Abstract There is a very close relationship between population distribution and traffic accessibility. The improvements of regional traffic accessibility will promote the concentration of population and economic activities, on the contrary, if the regional accessibility unable to adapt to the local population distribution, the pressure on the transportation will be increased, the economic development and social order even will be influenced heavily. Since the nineties of the twentieth century, with the rapid increase in China’s urbanization level and transportation infrastructure paved area, the population in space agglomeration and diffusion phenomena becomes more frequent. This makes it necessary that traffic planning formulation must be based on the characteristics of the regional population development, in order to promote the development of the national economy, improve people’s living standards; the traffic transport system must be based on the population distribution.This paper research mainly based on time and space evolution in nearly 20 years of Qinghai Province.First, the spatiotemporal pattern about Qinghai Province highway transportation accessibility was studied. From the point of view of time change it was found that with the continuous improvement of the regional highway network, county domain reach ability has greatly improved; at the same time the process of optimization presented marginal effect decreasing trend. From the point of view of space change it was found that highway traffic accessibility has obvious core–edge feature, Xining and Haidong city circle as the core, gradually decreasing as a circle type space distribution pattern from the east to the west.Second, the research is about the population spatial distribution pattern in Qinghai Province. From the point of view of time change: Qinghai Province population continues to grow but its speed is slowdown; growth and growth differences significantly between Counties. In space of Qinghai Province populationdistribution shows the overall pattern of the sparsely populated western Eastern;population spatial distribution with centralization, the outward diffusion and showed the characteristics of single polarization development.Finally, the research is about the population development and the accessibility relation of Qinghai province. In time, through regression analysis, it showed that the population index for highway accessibility of high fitting degree, they have significant correlation. Through the space of square distance by using the GIS software statistical module inverse method of weighting and spatial overlay module for spatial interpolation and spatial superposition on the population and accessibility index, it found that space population and accessibility also promote each other more obvious,the relationship between coordination. At the same time shows that the two developments from recession to the intermediate coordinated development of population and development in the analysis, lag and road traffic accessibility lagged fluctuations in population is currently lagging behind the development of type.At the end of this paper, it analyzes the problems and puts forward some countermeasures to provide strong evidence for the development of Qinghai province’s population and accessibility according to the problems in the relationship between population and accessibility of Qinghai Province.
