The general education is a common practice in primary school education in developed countries, in terms of the reality of China’s rural primary school education,cultivating a group of outstanding general rural elementary school teachers can be helpful to solve the problems existing in the construction of rural primary school teachers and it is meaningful for the development of rural primary school and teaching spots.But there are few studies on the whole subject teachers in rural primary schools,and most of them focus on the theory of pre-service training,there is no empirical study on the actual situation and demand of general rural elementary school teachers.As the core of teachers’ professional development, teacher’ knowledge is the foundation of teacher education,which almost affects all aspects of teacher education. Therefore,this investigation begins with general rural elementary school teachers’ knowledge demand considering their development.Through the literature research, interviews,classroom observation and content analysis method of six the general rural elementary school teachers of teachers’ knowledge of in-depth investigation to understand the current status of knowledge and knowledge needs as well as finding ways to suit pre-service training and post job development of general rural elementary school teachers.The main results are as following:1.In general,the general rural elementary school teachers’ teacher knowledge is in poor condition,the first line general rural elementary school teachers’ knowledge what they actually have and competent for teaching should have the knowledge still exist a big gap;2.Teachers in rural primary schools have a good grasp of the subject knowledge of Chinese and mathematics,especially the key knowledge without any problem,but for minor course,especially music,art,science and other disciplines of subject knowledge are very weak,the main reason for this gap is the identity of the general rural elementary school teachers of main courses deviation;3.General rural elementary school teachers have a lack of in-depth understanding of the knowledge of educational theory,and it is needed to renew and expand the knowledge of educational theory;4.Rural primary school general teachers’ curriculum knowledge is still in the level of words and practical and knowledge is uneven,so it is needed to transform teachers’ knowledge into teaching practice ability. Focus on strengthening the development and utilization of curriculum resources,curriculum evaluation capabilities,scientific research ability,classroom management capabilities and reflective research capabilities etc;5.General rural elementary school teachers’ knowledge is relatively narrow,so they need to promote cultural knowledge learning solidly;6.General rural elementary school teachers master the knowledge of learners and learning characteristics better; 7. General rural elementary school teachers lack the knowledge of modern education technology,it is necessary to further strengthen learning.In the study,the suggestion were put forward from four aspects:the first line general rural elementary school teachers, rural schools, pre-service education curriculum setting and in-service training to improve general rural elementary school teachers’ teacher knowledge.To the first line general rural elementary school teachers:1.It is necessary to master the subject knowledge of the subjects which they taught,which is the only way to ensure that the general rural primary school teachers have become the professional teachers;2.To improve the initiative of knowledge learning and cultivate the ability of learning, especially the ability of cross disciplinary learning;3.To improve the reflective ability of teaching practice and strengthen the dialogue with colleagues;4.Make full use of the resources of the rural community.To rural schools:1.Establish a sound educational and scientific research system,to provide the impetus for the development of the general rural primary school teachers’ knowledge;2.Construct the teachers professional knowledge learning community of general rural primary school teachers, to create a good environment for the development of teachers’ knowledge:3.Provide rich educational resources for general rural primary school teachers to provide the conditions for the development of knowledge.To pre-service education curriculum setting: the curriculum setting for the training of general rural elementary school teachers should reveal the diversity, integration and openness.To in-service training:construct a targeted general rural elementary school teachers’ training system to improve the effectiveness of teacher training in rural primary school, according to the needs of the rural primary school teachers in the whole.
