Discipline is the basic unit of the University and d iscipline competition is the foundation of the competition among Universities. Building a world-class university, it comes down to building a first-class disciplines. Exploring the theoretical problems of discipline competitiveness, studying the evaluation index and method of discipline competitiveness, it is conducive to objective and comprehensive understanding of the disciplines competitive situation, understanding the advantages and disadvantages of disciplines competitiveness, thus contributing to the discipline construction and development, improving the level of discipline and social influence.The main contents as follows:Firstly, This paper discusses the theory of competitive advantage in the theory of ability and resources and on this basis, build a theoretical analysis framework of competitive advantage of disciplines. By analyzing the factors that influence the competitiveness of discipline, learning fro m discipline evaluation index system and considering the availability of data, this paper attempts to build discipline competitiveness evaluation index system from two dimensions of competition for resources and competition results.Secondly, we make an empirical study on the evaluation of discipline competitiveness. We choose three methods to measure the discipline competitiveness, including the principal component analysis method, the weighted average method, and cluster analysis. Then we calculate the discipline competitiveness of ten universities respectively to get the rank and classification of those. Next, we analyze the results to explain these three evaluation methods.Finally, we put forward some recommendations for college management on how to enhance the discipline competitiveness.Results can be summarized as follows: The results obtained in three methods have a high consistency, but because three kinds of evaluation methods differ from each other, resulting in the final results there are also differences. Finally, we recommend that university administrators can improve the competitiveness o f disciplines by enhancing organizational innovation, enhanceing the differences with competitors, improving the key factor of discipline and seizing the opportunity to break the balance.
