Purpose:to study the change of hemopoiesis during high-altitude trainning, and the influence of iron supplement intake on hemoglobin. To determine whether the altitude of 3300m can make necessary hypoxiaemic stimulus on elite race walkers of altitude residents. Methods:Serum EPO,Hb,Ret were tested before and 3rd day at high-altitude as well as 7th day descent from high-altitude where stayed one week in elite male race walkers(N=8),who are prolonged residency at altitude. Compare SF and Hb value between iron and non-iton supplement intake group at high-altitude.In the experiment, training and meals are same between two groups.Results:1.Serum EPO increased on 4th day during high-altitude training(P<0.05),a strong interindividual variability was observed. There was no difference between before and 7th day leaving high-altitude.2.Comparing to before high-altitude,RBC and HCT had no change(P>0.05), Ret decreased(P=0.050)and IRFdecreased significantly(P<0.01) on 7th day descent from high-altitude.3.Hb increased on 3rd day,but not markedly. After decending slightly on 4th day,it raised gradually, and reached peak value on 9th day(P<0.05). But the time when Hb reached peak had indivdual variability.4.ΔEPO on 4rd day andΔHb on 14th day,ΔEPO%and the time of Hbmax had significantly positive correlation. 5.SF decreased in non-iron supplement intake group and increased in iron group after high-altitude training. Conclusions and Suggestion:1.High-altitude training can make a positive effect on hemopoiesis in elite male race walkers of altitude residents. It can make necessary hypoxiaemic stimulus.A strong individual variability must be considered during high-altitude training.2.Iron reservior decreased on 7th day after descent from haigh-altitude. Iron supplement intake during high-altitude can improve iron reservior, and make the peak value of Hb higher but later.3.It is necessary to evaluate body iron status before high-altitude training.Good iron reservior is important for Hb at high-altitude.4.It is important to hemogrammonitor for subjects who have higher Hb.
