Xinyang is located in the most southern of Henan province, which borders on Hubei province, and lied in the transition zone of north and south in China, the location of China is very important, therefore, there’s a special academic value of the study of the geography of Xinyang. On the natural geographical, Xinyang is located in the transition zone of temperate monsoon climate and subtropical monsoon climate, Tongbai mountains and Dabie districts is in the east of Xinyang, and is on the west of the Huai River area, resulting in Xinyang a typical geographical unit. Therefore, there is a special significance for this paper to select Ming and Qing Dynasties’agricultural development in the region as the research object.On the basis the inspection of the large number of files, documents and other historical about Xinyang in Ming and Qing Dynasties, utilized the methods of historical literature, field studies, comparative studies and chart application, Xinyang agricultural development areas in the Ming and Qing Dynasties are made more systematic inquiry. This paper is divided into four chapters to discuss.The first chapter, it accounts for(introduces) the foundation and background of Xinyang’s Agricultural Development in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, including changes of administrative divisions of the Ming and Qing Dynasties area, natural conditions of the area of agricultural development, etc. The introduction of changes of administrative divisions of the district is to make the writing of this article specific range. Through the introduction of the district agricultural development foundation and background, we can understand this area has very favorable natural conditions and the fine tradition of agricultural development for agricultural development.The second, third and fourth chapters focus on the content of this article, the main aspects of population and labor force, agricultural water development, use of tools and the planting of crops are elaborated. During this period, the region’s population growth prompted a lot of land reclamation to gain, agricultural area is also increased. Population growth in the area, on the one hand, the increasing of labor force prompt reclamation of the area of land; on the other hand, the increase of population must also require land area expanding to feed more people. Increase the area’s population growth and land is a positive correlation, but sometimes it presents different situations. Focus on water development in this area, vigorously build water conservancy projects, water resources development provides a good irrigation conditions for agricultural production, which conducive to the further development of agriculture. In addition, crop in the area give priority to rice, wheat and other traditional crops.
