Considering the basic national conditions in the process of modernization, the intensive use of construction land in current China is highly necessary. It is a crucial approach to alleviate the contradiction between supply and demand of limited land resources, and promote the intensive and efficient utilization of production space, thereby ensuring the sustainable social and economic development. Therefore, it is significant to study on the spatial and temporal differences of the intensive using of construction land and discuss the mechanism that leads to the spatial and temporal heterogeneity. This study not only reveals the spatial and temporal variation rules of the intensive use of construction land, but also exposes existing problems about that in Zhejiang Province. Furthermore, it provides theoretical and practical basis for policy making and implementation of intensive use of construction land, which eventually alleviates the contradiction between supply and demand of limited land resources.Based on economic statistics and land resources survey in Zhejiang Province, this paper analyzed aspects as follows:(1) the dynamic variation trend of the intensive use of construction land through single index and composite analysis;(2) the characteristics of spatial differences of the intensive use of construction land;(3) the mechanism of spatial and temporal differences and reasons behind it;(4) relevant policies for more intensive use of construction land. The main results were concluded below:(1)The dynamic change trend analysis indicated that from2001to2011, the overall level of the intensive use of construction land was rising slowly in Zhejiang Province. Most single indexes rose while a few single indexes decreased.(2)There were significant spatial differences in the level of the intensive use of construction land in Zhejiang Province. More than two-thirds were located in III, or IV grade level, which showed that the intensive utilization level was generally low. Wenzhou and Hangzhou were the most effective cities to use land intensively while Jinhua, Quzhou and Huzhou the least. The ranking of the intensive degree of construction land between the counties changed to a certain extent from2006to2011. Besides, there was a significant positive correlation of the global space, and the spatial agglomeration phenomenon was obvious. The results of local spatial autocorrelation indicated that Wenzhou belonged to the "high-high" region and Jinhua, Quzhou, Lishui pertained to the "low-low" area.(3) Urbanization and economic development level played a decisive role in the spatial and temporal differences of the intensive use of construction land; Industrial structure was an important factor; Natural resources and land market development level were basic factors; Geographic conditions, macroeconomic policies also had an impact on the spatial and temporal differences. Finally, according to the research findings, the article made relevant recommendations.
