Study On The Tourism Development Potential Of The Recessionary Resource-based City

A city should take into account not merely the existing competitiveness but also thepotential of tourism development when it comes to determining the industry status anddevelopment strategy of tourism. And with the economic and social development,tourism has demonstrated it’s increasingly important position in national economy, socialand culture development, and has upgraded to the national strategic pillar industry. Moreand more areas have taken tourism as a new economic growth point, and the recessionaryresource-based city also begins to develop tourism resources, putting it as an importantpath to accomplishing the transformation of economic development. Therefore, withtourism development potential as the point of contact, this paper tries to combine boththe perspectives of the transformation of recessionary resource-based city and tourismdevelopment, to analyze the present situation and development potential of therecessionary resource-based cities with quantitative methods, and to put forward somecorresponding countermeasure. The study will contribute to measuring the subsequentdevelopment ability and space of tourism for recessionary resource-based cities andproviding the reference for demining the industry status of tourism and for improving thedevelopment potential.Firstly, the background and significance of this research are expounded, relevantresearch literature about resource-based cities and tourism potential is reviewed, the mainresearch content and method are stated and related concept and theories are explainedbriefly, both of which provide theoretical basis and research method for this paper.Secondly, the present situation of recessionary resource-based cities is analysized fromaspects of tourism supply, tourism demand, economic and social support and ecologicalenvironment guarantee, according to the factors that influence the tourism developmentpotential. And then this paper builds a evaluation system of tourism development potentialfor the recessionary resource-based city, calculate the weight of32indicators from thefour subsystems by the method of entropy, evaluate the potential by applying the methodof TOPSIS, and sort the result into three classes by cluster methodology: the strong development potential area of tourism, the general development potential area of tourismand the weak development potential area of tourism. Finally, this paper puts forwardspecific strategies for improving the tourism development potential according to the aboveanalysis.
