Countries around the world have begun to focus on global climate change, the fourthIPCC study reported that human activities may be the main factors contributing to globalwarming. At present, China is in a period of social transformation, the domestic consumermarket has great potential.Social transformation brought about far-reaching implications foremployment, living and consumption patterns of residents, not only related to the social andeconomic problems, but also the energy and environmental issues.China is a developingcountry with the largest population in the world, regional industrialization, urbanizationlevels vary widely, the number of poor people is also great, but with the rapid economicdevelopment, urban and raise the level of industrialization, is bound to consume moreenergy and produce more carbon emissions. As China’s economic development has a rigiddemand for energy consumption, while facing the current status of the increasingly seriousenvironmental problems and shortage of resources, China should coordinate thedevelopment process "to expand consumer" relationship and "energy saving". In order toclarify China and the United States should bear the responsibility and the goal should be toreduce emissions during the process of global warming. It is necessary to makecomparative analysis for the carbon emissions generated by consumer, thus providing acertain standard for the ask of reducing emissions of the two countries in the future. In this paper, a comparative analysis of the two countries and their residents’consumption structure of carbon emissions and influencing factors of carbonemissions. This paper is divided into six parts in total.First, the paper describes the globalwarming and increasing international pressure to reduce emissions of carbon emissions andthe emissions of carbon has surpassed the United States in the background, then describesthe current status of the domestic and foreign scholars study consumer carbon emissionscalculation methods and resident drivers. The second part of this paper, it use a method ofcombining qualitative and quantitative to compare the difference of consumption structurebetween China and United States. The third part, we use factor analysis divided the Chinaand US consumer stage, and find the same level of consumption United States of the historical period and China at the present stage (2001~2010). The fourth part, we usecarbon emission factors and input-output method to calculate the Chinese residents and USresidents2002,2005,2007,2010years of direct and indirect carbon emissions by1955-2010,then predicted the carbon emissions over the next50years in China. On this basis, wecalculate the two countries’ residents of different income levels of carbon emissions in2010.The fifth part, we use gray correlation method to analyze the factors affecting China andUS residents’ direct carbon emissions, then use the structural decomposition analysismethod to analyze the factors affecting China and US residents’ indirect carbon emissions. Finally, according to the analysis results, pointed out the energy saving policyrecommendations.
