There will be no economic growth without energy input and theenergy problem is always the hot topic of economic development. How toensuring the rapid economic growth and reducing energy consumption atthe same time is the most urgent problem in China’s economicdevelopment. Generally speaking, to improve the energy efficiency is themost effective way to conserve energy, however, will improve energyefficiency really reduce energy consumption?"Jevons paradox" has attracted foreign scholar’s attention in energy, economy and environmental field. And their research about energyrebound effect is very sufficient. However, both empirical and theoreticalresearch on China’s energy rebound effect especially by sector isinsufficient. Based on which, this paper studies China’s energy reboundeffect by sector.First of all, we reviewed the literatures about energy rebound effectand found that the research in China’s energy rebound effect isinsufficient. Most of domestic scholars think the factor of energy intensitychange is technical progress and ignored the other factors such as energyprice and structure change, so the results of the estimation is incorrect.Secondly, analyzed the present situation of energy consumption in ourcountry, found there are still many problems exist in China’s energyconsumption, such as the low energy efficiency and the insufficient inenergy generate. Again, based on the neoclassic theory of economicgrowth, we enplaned the generation of energy rebound effect, and thenestablished the calculation of the energy rebound effect model. Finally, based on the theory, combined with the existing research in our country, use the logarithmic mean divisia index method(LMDI) to decompositionenergy intensity change. Then according to the model we measuredChina’s five major sector’s energy rebound effect during the year1985-2012.Empirical research conclusion shows that there is a widespreadenergy rebound effect in China’s sectors, and the average energy reboundeffect before the year 2000 lower than the average energy rebound effectafter the year 2000. What’s more, "backfire effect" exists in the five majorsectors to some extent.
