The so-called R&D (Research and development) generally means the activities like exploring the unknown and innovating the unprecedented in scientific research and technical development field. But due to high risk, those activities are not easy to succeed. Although managers has aware the importance of R&D project management, but there is no common sense till now on management mode and management method.As an engine development and manufacturing enterprise within petroleum system, JC Company met the same problem in serious project schedule delay. So the writer first describe the project status and existing problems in detail within the company. And then take the current research achievements as his theoretical basis to optimize R&D organization and design flow. At last, standardize and template the optimized R&D organization and design flow in PDM management system. Therefore, the project plan management and schedule control can be operated at PDM management platform. With all those efforts, the writer hopes to improve management level, R&D efficiency as well as project success rate for JC company product development.By combing the problems and collecting all comments caused for project delay through meetings, investigations, as well as specialist consultation, the writer finds out the solutions and finalized them in PDM system. Regarding the hardware organization structure establishment, the company promotes the foundation of Power Equipment institute to form unified technical R&D center and specialized cooperation institute. Based on this background, the paper takes 18V260 diesel engine project as an example. The managers apply the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) to distribute the work task. And use Gantt chart in PDM system to compile the project schedule. In order to proceed project smoothly, the managers has taken series management measures from project implementation, progress tracing to logistic supporting. Finally come to the conclusion and the outlook in the future.The writer studies the implementation of the project schedule management in PDM system and its implement mechanism within JC Company, their product R&D efficiency and management level has been improved. And the project schedule can be kept. It is also a value-added method created for company. As a bold attempt and new applied idea, it can be a good reference and set an example to other enterprises.
