Report of the Eighteenth National Congress of the Communist Party of China puts forward that "Implement the strategy of innovation-driven development", which suggests that promoting innovation capability has become the strategic priority for national development. Innovation is the inexhaustible motive force for national prosperity, as well as the source of the eternal vitality of enterprises. The innovation of the enterprise depends on the resources integration. Since knowledge is the most important resource of enterprise, how to achieve knowledge integration and optimize the structure of knowledge are the key of enterprise innovation activities.Current research about innovation strategy and knowledge structure mostly is in the form of separation. The research of innovation strategy mostly focuses on the content and the way of the strategy, and the literature of knowledge discusses more about the characteristic attributes of knowledge, or pays close attention to the knowledge structure from the individual level. Based on resource-based theory, innovation theory, strategic management theory, this paper discusses the effects about the combination of innovation strategy and knowledge structure on enterprise innovation performance, and analyzes the mediation role of innovation capability in relationship between knowledge structure and innovation performance. This paper redefines the enterprise knowledge structure, and based on the component and architecture knowledge, the knowledge structure is divided into four types: high-component with high-architectural, high-component with low-architectural, low-component with high-architectural and low-component with low-architectural. Using the questionnaire survey for empirical research, the results show that:the knowledge structure has significant positive impact on innovation performance; innovation strategy plays a positive role in regulating the relationship between knowledge structure and innovation performance, that is, the higher degree of exploratory research, the greater influence of knowledge structure(high-component with high-architectural, low-component with high-architectural) on innovation performance, the higher degree of exploitative innovation strategy, the greater influence of knowledge structure(high-component with low-architectural) on innovation performance; innovation capacity plays an mediation role in the relationship between knowledge structure with innovation performance. As a result, suggestions for management are following:enterprises should pay attention to identify and optimize the structure of knowledge. The innovation strategy should match the knowledge structure. The optimization of knowledge structure can improve enterprise innovation ability, influencing the innovation performance.This study not only expands and extends the interdisciplinary research in field of the knowledge and innovation, but also provides theoretical basis for the enterprise to identify and optimize the knowledge structure, as well as to adjust the innovation strategy.
