The Impact Of Forestry To Farmers’ Income In Rocky Desertification Region In Guangxi

Forestry effect on the rocky desertification restoration and reconstruction has been under a lot of research, but the impact of forestry to the income of the farmers in rocky desertification region has not caused widespread concern.This paper analyze the relationship between forest and farmers’ incomes in rocky desertification area in Guangxi, make a comprehensive evaluation of the impact of forestry on desertification control and farmers’ income, and propose some policy measures to deepen and enhance the impact of forestry on Guangxi rocky desertification.The 120 returned farm-household questionnaire reflects the farmer household characteristics, income, forestry management and so on in typical region. Based on the results of previous studies, this paper choose 11 factors that influence farmers ’income in rocky desertification area for factor analysis according to the actual situation of the structure of the sample households income sources, so as to make an empirical analysis of forestry on farmers’ income in Guangxi rocky desertification area. On this basis, this paper also analysis the factors affecting farmers’ willing to forestry investment management in rocky desertification area by binary logistics regression analysis.Results of this study shows that:(1) Guangxi has a high proportion of karst land, and rock desertification is very serious. However, because of rich forest resources and favourable forestry industry foundation, forestry development has a strong advantage in rocky desertification area, and protecting and improving the ecological tasks is urgent;(2) The impact of forestry on farmers’ incone in Guangxi rocky desertification area including both direct and indirect, the direct influence is that forestry can improve farmers’ income directly. The indirect influence is the adjustment of industrial structure and implement of farmers’ employment, but the appropriate policies and operational mechanism is absence;(3) Forestry is an important measure for poverty reduction, althrough the share of farmers’ forestry income in household income is small in Guangxi rocky desertification area, it is still an important source of income to the farmers in poor areas, and the role of forestry to farmers’ income is greater than agriculture.;(4)The ecological functions of forestry plays in Guangxi rocky desertification area are not reflected in farmers ’income, most of them are free used by community, it is an important reason for the low of farmers’ forestry income, which greatly affected the farmers’ enthusiasm for production and management of forestry.This paper proposes the following policy recommendations:(1) Increase ecological compensation so that farmers in rocky desertification area and potential rocky desertification area can get more ecological assets from forestry(2) To strengthen the organization of forestry production by establish and guide enterprises and forestry cooperatives;(3) To broaden the sources of forestry investment management funds by improving the preferential lending policies, micro-insurance and financial transfer, etc.;(4) Enhance training and technology support to improve farmer forestry planting and breeding technology level;(5)To encourage the development of underground-forest economy in rocky desertification area.
