A Research Of Peasants’ Grain Production Behavior In Henan Province

As China’s most populous province and a major grain-producing area, Henan province plays an important role in ensuring food security in China. The research and analysis of Henan peasants’ behavior in grain production is of great significance in optimizing the grain production of Henan province and ensuring food security in China.This paper first summarized the relevant concepts and theories about the peasants’ behavior in grain production, and studied peasants’ behavior in grain production at home and abroad, the data of which was applied to this paper. Besides, in the perspective of peasants, the paper analyzed peasants’ behavior in grain production as well as its influence on grain production itself; Second, data related to food production situation in Henan province and the four regions here from 1997 to 2013 is analyzed and stated in this paper, among which, how the current peasants’ production behavior influenced food production in Henan province was highlighted; Then, based on a questionnaire survey of more than500 peasants in the four regions in Henan province, the paper carried on the study from many angles, including the farming region, land scale, household income and concurrent business degree. After that, the analysis of the local peasants, economy as well as government policy and their influence on peasants’ behavior in grain production was conducted. Finally, the paper put forward a few feasible policy suggestions on how to guide farmers to farm, improve peasants’ productive positivity, and ensure food security in our country as well. From the perspective of farmers and the regional difference, the paper provides an innovative research perspective for researching peasants’ grain production behavior.After the analysis of how grain production was affected due to the change of peasants’ grain production behavior, the main conclusions of the study are as follows:First, the peasants’ grain production behavior has been changing from 1990 to 2013. Peasants’ behaviors differ from region to region. The four regions have their own production behaviors based on their own land conditions. Second, the study proves that peasants themselves, economy and government policy are the main factors that have great influence on the peasants’ grain production behavior.In the end, the paper, on the basis of above analysis and conclusions, provided policy suggestions on the development of grain production in Henan province.
