Development Strategies For Yulin-refinery

Petroleum is a pivotal energy resource which plays an irreplaceable role in the national economy. Rapid development and great achievements has been made in the petroleum refining industry since the foundation of People’s Republic of China, particularly since the introduction of Reform and Opening up policy. Yulinrefinery is one of the subsidiaries under Shaanxi Yanchang Petroleum (group) co.,LTD which specializes in refinery, petrochemistry and engineering construction. Thanks to two major business restructuring, its production capacity, products structure and products quality have been significantly improved and thus the competitiveness of the company are greatly enhanced, which result in a leaps-and-bounds development during the "eleventh five-year plan" period. On the other side, however, as some of the technology and equipments are outdated, the company still lags behind in term of its unit performance and unit cost. Therefore, how to address domestic and foreign challenges as well as plan the development strategy has become the key point of the company.By collecting first-hand data through site visits, studying the development stage of the petroleum refining industry both domestic and worldwide, this paper comes up with strategic goals, plans for Yulinrefinery as well as the implementation methods of the strategy through SWOT analysis under the direction of Strategic Management theories.This paper may contribute to the strategic management of Yulinrefinery to some extent, and hopefully it can provide reference to other refinery enterprises as well.
