Along with the constant development of national social economy, urbanization, and industrialization process, the evolution of land use structure has increasingly become the main feature land use change currently and in the future. Meanwhile, the internal part of construction land, due to the unreasonable land use of spatial layout, has witnessed a series of constantly emerging social problems, such as confusion of urban functions, environmental pollution, food security crisis. These problems have seriously devastated the harmonization of social, economic and ecological benefit of land utilization. At present, studies on coupling between construction land and socio-economy development from china and abroad are still very scarce. Therefore, based on the system theory, regional economics, geography and other related disciplines, this study combines quantitative factors and mathematic model, focuses on the structure of construction land, socio-economy development and spatial evolving characteristics in Chengdu, with the assistance of GIS spatial analysis technology. Then the study analyses the coupling development of contraction land structure and socio-economy status and its principles, in order to provide references for land use improvement and socio-economy development and offer information for decision-making about sustainable development.1. The characteristics of socio-economic development and spatial evolvement in Chengdu(1) The overall socio-economy level of the city stay low with distinct difference between the weak and the strong. Spatially it has formed a "center-periphery"structure. (2) From 1996 to 2010, the city’s regional social and economic overall presents synchronous stable growth. Regional development becomes more stable in this way. (3) From 1996 to 2010, the spatial agglomeration of the city’s socio-economic development is increasing; a "dual core" structure in urban and suburban areas leading to the socio-economic development has been highlighted, while the outer suburb district is confronted with the marginalization.2. The characteristics of construction land structure in Chengdu(1) In aspect of quantity and structure, the average value of diversification and centralization index of Chengdu’s construction land is 0.453 and 0.120, with 2 kinds of combination type. This indicates that the city has high diversification degree, low concentration degree and low overall structural functionality; there are significant regional differences of quantity and structure of construction land. From downtown to suburban the diversity of construction land structure increases while the concentration degree decreases. (2) In aspect of spatial structure, the distribution of urban construction land is relatively concentrated while that of other construction land is dispersed. The spatial patterns of patches are not complicated; there are significant regional differences in construction land spatial structure, from downtown to outer suburban construction land tend to be increasingly discrete and patch shape tend to be increasingly complex and in stable. (3) The correlation between factors about construction land’s structural characteristics and the gray factors are above 0.5, indicating that the city’s construction land structure is closely related to physical environment, socio-economic development and political planning, among which physical environment factors impose the significant influences.3. The characteristics of spatial and temporal evolution of construction land in Chengdu(1) The information entropy, equilibrium degree and dominance of construction land have changed from 1.15Nat,0.64 and 0.36 in 1996 to 109 Nat,0.61 and 0.39 in 2010. Thus there is a decrease in the information entropy and equilibrium degree, while a increase in dominance. From the perspective of different regions, information entropy of the main urban areas and suburb areas is decreasing while that of outer suburb areas is increasing. In addition, changes of information entropy of the substitutes of suburb regions show obvious polarization. (2) Urban construction land and transportation land structure belongs to the growing structure, among which urban construction land shows a significant recharge effect; rural residential land, mining land, water conservancy facilities and other construction land belongs to the decaying structure, among which rural residential and mining land show a significant crowding-out effect. (3) Competitiveness of different types of construction land and their change speed has significant spatial difference.4. Coupling and coordination evaluation between construction land structure and socio-economic development in Chengdu(1) The overall coordination level of contraction land-socioeconomy remains low, dominated by structural adjustment lag type; spatial differentiations of coupling and coordination degree exist, displaying a declining trend from downtown to suburb areas. (2) From 1996 to 2010, the overall coupling and coordination degree in Chengdu shows a positive upward trend. From 0.11 in 1996 to 0.88 in 2010, the city achieved a transformation from socio-economic development lag serious imbalance to the construction land structural adjustment lag type. (3) From 1996 to 2010, space agglomeration of coupling and coordination degree is weakening; while that of the downtown remains stable and hot spot areas. Coupling and coordination degree of suburban decreased while that of the outer suburban increased a little, showing totally opposite trends.
