Whether a business organization is large or small, complex or simple, globalization or virtualization, "strong leadership" is one of the most important factors in organizational growth, change and regeneration. We live in an era of leadership transition of extraordinary significance, ie. the Individual Leader Era gradually subside and the Excellent Team Era gradually rise. The complex and changing environment also poses a challenge to the traditional vertical leadership model, companies need a new leadership ideas and models-Shared Leadership. The nature of shared leadership is making rational use of team members’ expertise to form more lasting and vibrant leadership in organizations. It reflects the fact that to achieve business strategic goals and vision in the future, not just relies on the ability of individual entrepreneurs, but more on the collective ability of management teams. Development based on shared leadership, is a new idea of the leadership development of business management teams.Chinese business management teams are generally facing the problem of the shortage of shared leadership. Since shared leadership being formally proposed in the 1990s, this new leadership model has not been accepted and implemented successfully in China. There is an urgent need for Chinese companies to develop shared leadership in management teams. Currently, the relative research in China is still rare, and the issues of its composition, assessment and development methods need to be explored and studied soon, which have significance at both theoretical and practical aspects.This study uses literature analysis, questionnaires and other research methods to collect data, through a series of scientific empirical analysis program such as exploratory factor analysis(EFA), it explores the shared leadership scale composition for business management team. Eventually the study builds a model of shared leadership with four factors of shared power and responsibilities, shared expectations, team learning and team coordination, forming a formal shared leadership scale with a total of 16 questions in above four dimensions. The reliability and validity of the scale have reached the psychometric requirements.After applying the shared leadership scale for formal investigation with 93 samples, this study summarizes the current situation and shortage of share leadership in business management teams. At the same time, ANOVA is ued to find out that the demographical and organizational variables have some significant effects upon the dimensions of shared leadership. Then it makes comprehensive analysis of the needs of leadership development in business management teams. Finally, this study puts forward several leadership development strategies for management teams concerning the objectives, contents, methods and evaluation etc., to form a relatively complete framework and leadership development solutions.Results of this study will a) help to enrich the theory and empirical research towards business shared leadership; b) provide a tool for assessment of shared leadership in business management team; c) contribute some efforts to make Chinese companies attach more importance to the leadership development of management team, promote the implementation of shared leadership model, and improve the collective leadership of the management teams.
