Exquisite Design Of Nursing Home Facilities

Nursing home is important part of elderly facilities. Against the backdrop of aging society, relevant laws, regulations and literatures referential for refinement and human-oriented design of China's nursing homes are summarized. Physical, mental and behavioral characteristics of the old are explored and discussed. Based on analysis results, special physical, psychological and behavioral characteristics of most elders in nursing homes are summarized. Some design principles are put forward to gear building of nursing homes to the above characteristics. Concerning the problem that China's current design guidelines lack refinement and clear objectives and their role to just meet elders'basic living needs, the author deepens the research and raises some suggestions to refine and increase humaneness of design.Typical spaces in nursing homes, including the living space, the bathing space, the public space and the healthcare space, are summarized, and the elders'behavioral habits are investigated. Based on the field investigation, some suggestions are offered to improve design of functional spaces. The distribution and the refined design of functional spaces are discussed. Based on discussion results, suggestions for refined design of functional spaces of nursing homes are put forward.At last, based on the author's participation in internship projects, problems existing in current nursing homes are pointed out and improved, mainly including size optimization of buildings. An in-depth discussion of building design theories related to nursing homes is conducted at an attempt to lead people to combine theories with practices and provide referential suggestions for building design and refined size optimization related to China's nursing homes.
