With the rapid development of national economy, lifting machinery is increasingly being applied to shipbuilding, metallurgy, port, machinery and other industries. According to statistics, more than 85% of all cranes are gantry cranes. At present, safety devices limiting the weight are required in China’s gantry cranes. And there is no intelligent online monitoring and fault diagnosis system, which results in a serious security risk. So it needs to develop gantry crane state monitoring and fault diagnosis system. Related work is as follows:Firstly, the research status at home and abroad is discussed. On the one hand, research current status of crane status monitoring is introduced. On the other hand, fault diagnosis technology is also discussed.Secondly, monitoring programs are designed and key technologies are studied. According the relating parameters and characteristics of gantry cranes as "Gantry Crane Safety Monitoring and Management System" said, the detailed program how to get monitoring parameters is designed and some key technologies are studied in further. At last, the software development process is listed.Further, gantry crane fault diagnosis methods are also researched. Different methods, such as fault tree technology, expert systems, time series, genetic algorithms, neural network diagnostic methods and so on, are discussed in detail. And these methods are applied on the gantry crane according to its characteristics.Further, the overall system is designed and relating software is developed. The gantry crane status monitoring and fault diagnosis system functional requirements are analyzed, the overall system architecture is determined, and communication protocol between the functional modules of each subsystem is designed. In addition, the software is finished by using C++with the environment of VS2010.Finally, the system installation and experimental verification are introduced.
