With the vigorous development of China’s sports industry, sports become increasingly market-oriented, increasing user demand for sports buildings function, complex sports buildings has become an inevitable trend. The natatorium compared to other stadiums have more sophisticated equipment systems and more unique form in space, with more opportunities and challenges in the design of composite architectural space. The exterior space of natatorium as a service in the field of space is an auxiliary space, of which the complex design is more flexibility and scalability. In this paper takes the exterior space of natatorium as the research object, with the behavior model of fitness people as a starting point. Firstly, through analyzing the actual cases at home and abroad we understood the current situation and trend of development of the sports complex of buildings in terms of space. Through the actual state of research on the field of the exterior space of natatorium, we investigated the case of a user’s behavior and usage of space, while making a brief analysis. With the behavioral model, we analyzed the behavior of the demand situation, and summarized the behavior of individual and group activity patterns, draw people’s behavior model, and finally implemented the behavior patterns of spatial form requirements, exploring the specific use patterns of exterior space. Firstly, through analyzing the level of behavior, and taking the attribute of space as the point of view, we divided the space utilization mode into inwardly extended type and outwardly extended type, and then two types of analysis were summarized. This paper tried to take patterns of behavior as the point of view, using the theory of environmental behavior, architectural psychology, sports science and other disciplines, methods and concepts, through theoretical research, case studies, field research, and other methods, to study space utilization model of the exterior space of natatorium based on user inquiry and use patterns of behavior model.
