With the increased availability and robust development of higher education in China, university construction of different scales has attracted more and more attention from all social circles. As the most significant part of university planning and construction, student living areas are not created to simply provide catering and housing service for university students. In addition, they build the platform for social networking which contributes to students' healthy individual growth. However the singleness of primary user and the characteristics of periodic changes as well as strong sense of the times time have make the design of student living areas often lagged behind.Due to the influential factors such as latitude and climate, university students in cold regions are more dependent on living areas. But so far domestic research materials and findings related to the Post Occupancy Evaluation of university students' living areas are relatively few and not perfect enough, thus imposing restrictions on the promotion of university students' life quality. Therefore, based on the study of post occupancy evaluation of domestic and foreign reconstruction, this paper is intended to build POE models and methods applicable for student living areas at universities in cold regions.Besides, evaluation analysis is conducted with the Northeast Forestry University taken as the example, which is expected to find out some common problems of inconsistency between the real application and campus planning as well as construction. It is also hoped to provide authentic and reliable reference for future construction of student living areas in Northeast Forestry University and all colleges and universities in cold regions. This research combines theory with practices.Firstly,by means of field study in colleges and universities located in cold regions, the researcher discovers and analyzes the common problems in campus planning and use of students living areas, and then compares them with colleges and universities in other regions. On this basis, material collection, elementary data measurement and depth interview are adopted in Northeast Forestry University together with personalized questionnaires that are produced in accordance with the unique characteristics of colleges and universities in cold regions.Secondly, extensive investigation is conducted under the guidance of the POE models, and evaluation analysis of student living areas is carried out from six aspects including traffic system, green landscape square, business service facilities, apartment, dining hall and other affiliated buildings.By defining the characteristic difference as gender, grade, campus and education level, the researcher analyzes the demand difference of different population student groups. Finally, comprehensive analysis and summaries are made based on the investigation findings to improve the current situations of the student living areas in Northeast Forestry University and put forward correspondent optimization strategies after case study on the common problems of colleges and universities in cold regions.
