ObjectiveThe present study was to investigate the expression of IL-18 in serum and aqueous humor of patients with type 2 diabetic retinopathy and to investigate its role in the pathogenesis of diabetic retinopathy.Subjects and methodsThe present study was to select cases of cataract and type 2 diabetes patients which hospitalizations from March,2015 to March,2016 the First People's Hospital of Yunnan, the First Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University,Huashan Hospital of ophthalmology. The 114 patients were divided into NDR group(group-A),NPDR group(group-B),PDR group(group-C),control group(group-D),all the patients were asked to collect the serum, and aqueous humor. To detect IL-18 of the serum and aqueous humor levels by ELISA.The resulting data is computed as mean ± standard deviation, mean of each group were compared using one-way ANOVA,multiple samples of each group were compared using pairwise SNK test. The relationship between the two factors with Kendall correlation analysis was used to compare.Result1 Compared with the control group, the serum levels of IL-18 in the experimental group were increased, the difference was statistically significant. With the development of diabetic retinopathy, the serum IL-18 showed a trend of gradual decline. The of IL-18 in serum of the patients with different stages of type 2 diabete was not statistically significant.2 Compared with the control group, the aqueous humor levels of IL-18 in the experimental group was increased, the difference was statistically significant, there was no significant difference in IL-18 content between the experimental group and the experimental group. The of IL-18 in the aqueous humor of the patients with different stages of type 2 diabete was not statistically significant.3 There was a positive correlation between IL-18 and in serum and FBG in serum and IL-18 in serum.Conclusions1 the IL-18 variation levels may be involved in the development of type 2 diabetic retinopathy.2 IL-18 in serum may be a indicator of predicting the diabetic retinopathy.
