A Practice Report On Long Sentence Translation In Economic Texts From English To Chinese "2014 U.S. Economic Report Of The President"

Economy has close relationship with people's life and its influence on people is becoming greater and greater, with the development of globalization of economy, it's more and more necessary to understand the economic development trend and history of foreign countries. By understanding foreign economic trend and development history, we can learn from their advantages, so as to develop our economy based on this, discarding the dross and selecting the essential, eliminating the false and retaining the true. This project is a practice report of 2014 U.S. Economic Report of the President in Chinese translation. The report analyzes the progress that has been made since the economic crisis, and also analyzes how to create employment opportunities and maximize economic chances for the American people. The main characteristics of economic text in English are full of long sentences and the frequent use of terminology. The features of long sentence reflect in the following three aspects:there are a lot of coordinate construction, conceiving structure, as well as main structure with branches, which result in lots of modifiers and complex structures in the sentence. If the translators are unable to clarify the logic, they will have difficulty in understanding these sentences better. For example, when reading some Chinese translation versions of English economic text, the author finds out that many Chinese translation versions are hard to understand, and the sentence structure doesn't in conformity with Chinese languagespeaking habits. Sometimes there is phenomenon of missing and incorrect translation. In the meanwhile, due to cultural difference, the Chinese translation version of some English economic text is lack of impartiality and objectivity, and there are even some biased views in texts which might mislead the reader.During translation process, in accordance with the features of long sentence in English economic text, the author will adopt the method of following the original syntactic order, reversed order method, reinventing and dividing sentence structures to translate these texts. The translator will adopt different translation methods according to different sentence features and make the reader understand the original text better. And the summary is made according to translation practice of the author, the method and strategy for translating long sentences in English economic text is found, and it also laid a foundation for the translation work in future.
