With the acceleration of China's urbanization, more and more urban transportation and environmental problems have arisen. Such problems have limited the development of urban economy. Therefore, it is very urgent for China to improve its urban transportation systems.India, one of the countries with the fastest global economic growth rate, has gained valuable practical experience while working on the urban transportation systems. Therefore, translations of books of urban transportation systems in India are of great importance for China's urban transport.Urban Transportation and the Environment:Issues, Alternatives and Policy Analysis, written by Sudhakar Yedla, an Indian environmental economics, in October 2015, aims to find solutions to problems of Indian urban transportation systems and to improve them. Urban Transportation and the Environment:Issues, Alternatives and Policy Analysis (Chapters 1-5) is adopted as the source text. Based on functional equivalence, the translator employed liberal translation and literal translation as translation strategies and used several translation techniques, such as conversion, addition and omission during the translation process.By translating Urban Transportation and the Environment:Issues, Alternatives and Policy Analysis (Chapters 1-5), the translator hopes that this translation could provide certain reference for experts in the field of Chinese urban transportation and could also help to promote the development of urban transportation and environment in China.This translation report is divided into four parts. The translation project background, translation theory and significance of the translation project will be discussed. The second part is introduction to the author, content and linguistic features of the source text. In the third part, the key and difficult points will be analyzed through five aspects and translation strategies and techniques used in the translation will be summarized. The fourth part is conclusion part, in which experience and lesson will be discussed.
