This is a translation report for Little Bits of Sky,a piece of children's literature authored by British novelist S.E.Durrant.It is her first published novel based on her personal experience in Skilly(an orphanage),exhibiting her own and her brother's childhood life:new arrivals in Skilly, the life in Skilly, the death of Dash and the life with Martha.S.E.Durrant depicted her own spiritual journey and expressed her yearning for a wonderful life with an unadorned style of writing, which is not only an instructive story for children but also a journey returning to children's simplicity for adults.Under the guidance of Skopos Theory put forward by Hans J.Vermeer,a Germany translator, and in view of the children's cognitive, aesthetic and psychological characteristics, the author adopted various strategies to translate the chapters form NEW YEAR to TODAY in order to attain an understandable translation full of childish delight.First, the report gives a brief introduction to its origin, significance and structure. Then the report displays a detailed analysis of the original text, including its author, linguistic features and stylistic features as well as the features of a parallel text and its translation. And the author explores cases of translation according to the three rules of Skopos Theory--skopos rule, coherence rule and fidelity rule.Through the translation practice, the author has enhanced translation skills on children's literature and gained a further understanding of Skopos Theory. It is hoped that this report will be conducive to the translation of the same genre in the future.
