This report is based on the C-E translation of Chinese Tea Folklore(Excerpts).Chinese Tea Folklore(Excerpts)narrates the changes and development of tea customs in the Tang,the Song,the Yuan,the Ming and the Qing dynasties.As an informational text,it contains some historical facts,information and knowledge on tea.They are organized orderly and logically according to the time.The writer of the source text cites classics to make the text more persuasive.Moreover,the text has the characteristic of typical Chinese writing style,emphasizing on parataxis and loose structure.The text cites a large number of documents and historical records,covering many words with cultural connotation,which involve traditional Chinese culture.Basing on the language features of this text and considering the translation purpose of spreading Chinese tea culture and faithfully represent the source text,the author adopts Skopos Theory to guide this translation project and to produce a readable and acceptable target text.In the source text,there appears many ancient rituals and festivals,ancient teas,ancient eras and tittles.To translate these words,the translator adopts transliteration,annotation,paraphrasing and other methods to translate words with cultural connotation.As to sentences which show the feature of parataxis,the translator adopts amplification,division and free translation to translate sentences that show the feature of parataxis.Moreover,free translation is adopted in consideration of the logic and cohesion of the target tea poems.This report consists of the following parts: task description,process description,case analysis and conclusion.Chapter One introduces the background,purpose,significance and structure of the translation task.Chapter two describes the source text and difficulties in the translation,analyzes the linguistic features of source text and the Skopos Theory.Chapter three studies the application of the three rules of Skopos Theory in the translation of words,sentences and poems.The last chaptersummarizes the lessons,limitation and experience in the translation practice.
