| This is a translation project report. The source text, Business Practices in Small Firms in Developing Countries, is a paper produced by the Finance and Private Sector Development Team, Development Research Group of World Bank. This paper belongs to Policy Research Working Paper Series. Through surveys in seven developing countries for several years, the paper demonstrates the results of the surveys in detail and shows the relation between business practices and companies’ outcomes. It is of significance for the development of small firms in China by inspiring small firms’ owners to perform better.Chapter one is an introduction to the translation project; Chapter two analyzes the source text in three parts: the content and the language feature of the source text and the author; Chapter three analyzes the translation process, including the preparations before translation, the theory adopted, translation difficulties and methods. According to text typology put forward by Peter Newmark, the source text is informative in function so it falls in the category of informative text. According to the language feature of statistical English and under the guidance of text typology, the author put forward several translation methods to tackle these difficulties in translation process; Chapter four is the summary of this translation practice, including the translator’s gains through the whole translation process as well as the problems to be resolved in the further study. |
