A Practice Report On Translation Of Fundamentals Of Business Planning

This report is based on the author’s English-Chinese translation practice of Fundamentals of Business Planning,a task given by Sichuan Haihui Poverty Alleviation Service Center.The source text containing considerable basic knowledge on economics is a manual used for training course on cooperative and market development.An overall analysis and summary of the translation practice are undertaken in this report.Under the guidance of text typology proposed by Katharina Reiss,the report examines the text type of the source text,which predominantly belongs to informative text.The choice of translation methods is bound up with text type.Informative text focuses on content,and tries to achieve accuracy in information and clarity in logic.Moreover,to effectively conveying information,plain and readable target language is required for a better acquisition of information for receivers.Therefore,translation methods for accuracy of informative text are employed including diction,extension addition and linearity;translation methods for readability of informative text are adopted involving omission,substitution,conversion,division,and inversion.Various examples are shown to illustrate these translation methods.Based on the previous analysis,the author finds that: in this translation practice,text typology helps the translator to analyze the primary function of the source text,and adopt proper translation methods based on text type.The source text belongs to informative text,and translation methods mentioned above should be adopted to achieve accuracy and readability.This report consists of four chapters.Chapter 1 offers an introduction to background information of the task and three steps of translation process.Chapter 2 presents the analysis of text type of the source text under the guidance of text typology,and describes linguistic features at lexical and syntactic level.Chapter 3 studies the application of translation methods for accuracy and readability of informative text.Numerous examples are provided to illustrate these methods.Chapter 4 demonstrates a summary of the above analysis.
