| As one of the fastest-growing major economies in the world, China is undergoing a massive economic and social change. And conflicts between Chinese traditional value and modern one seem become sharper, which have already aroused many problems. Besides, the emerging of multi-values is also a big challenge, so there is still a long way to go before Chinese finally builds a modern moral system. In the last century, the U.S got into this situation, and the government solved this problem by popularizing character education. The translation project, based on the American way of education, will give us an introduction of how to apply character education in real life, which will not only provide Chinese parents and children with some new methods, but also promote the development of the China’s moral education.This is a translation project report on Parenting With A Story: Real-life Lessons in Character for Parents and Children to Share by Paul Smith. The source texts are Chapter 19 “Respect for others” and Chapter 20 “Friendship”, containing 13 stories. And main content of this report is divided into four parts: Part One is the a description of translation project, including project background, objectives, significance and layout. Part Two is an introduction to the source text, including an introduction to the author, main contents of the source text, linguistic features of the source text. Part Three is about translation difficulties and solutions to them, in which the difficulties lie in the translation of words and long sentences; the methods include diction, conversion and division. Part Four concludes with lessons, implication and unsolved problems in the translation project: how to deal with some simple words, how to divide original sentences; The translator must keep target readers in mind and achieve his/her translation purpose. |
