This translation report summarizes the author's process and experience of translating the two kinds of special long sentences in Companies Act 1993 of New Zealand under the guidance of translation methods. The source-language material—the 8thPart of Companies Act 1993 of New Zealand is a typical prescriptive legislative text. Formalized structure of legislative language and nested attributive clause are the two kinds of special long sentences encountered and discussed by the author. In the translation report, the author first introduces the significance of translating the chosen act and that of the study on the translation methods of the two kinds of special long sentences. Then she discusses the E-C translation methods concerning long sentences and attributive clauses in English legislative texts. On the basis of this, the author, mainly in accordance with the model sentences given by Zhang Fulin in Practical English-Chinese Translation of Law and Delaware General Corporation Law with its authoritative Chinese translation, explores respectively the translation methods of formalized structure of legislative language and nested attributive clauses in the chosen act. Finally the author summarizes the experience and lessons acquired in the translation practice and the problems to be solved.
