E-C Translation Of English Attributive Clauses In The Sellout

This translation project focuses on the first three chapters of The Sellout by Paul Beatty,which is the British Booker Novel Literature work in 2016.The Sellout tells about the most dangerous topics of American society such as black issues and racial discrimination.The source text consists of six chapters;even in the era of a black president,the social race is still difficult to be solved,because of class,immigration and some other complicated issues.The Sellout tells about an absurd but worrying story that may occur in our society.The thesis discusses the translation of English attributive clauses in The Sellout,which is based on three principles of Skopos Theory.Skopos Theory mainly focuses on the intentions of the source text that are connected with the translation methods,and then it can make the target reader produce the best effects.The translator makes an analysis of the first three chapters,finding the source text's characteristics and difficulties lie in the English attributive clauses in The Sellout.The thesis centers on the translation of English attributive clauses in the source text,which involves the restrictive attributive clauses and the non-restrictive attributive clauses.Based on the characteristics of The Sellout,the translator will discuss the translation methods of English attributive clauses under the guidance of the three principles of Skopos Theory,including the skopos principle,the coherence principle and the fidelity principle respectively.Under the guidance of the skopos principle,the coherence principle and the fidelity principle,the translator will conclude combination method,descriptive division method,adverbial division method,added division method and crossing method.Aiming at two different types of English attributive clauses in The Sellout,the translator adopts different translation methods to analyze the source text with examples.The thesis will analyze these attributive clauses in the target text and summarize the research on the translation of these attributive clauses with Skopos Theory,which makes us realize the charming language of The Sellout,in the hope that it can provide some references for the translation practice of other translators.
