This is a translation report. The source text is the chapter of Copyright of the Intellectual Property Law(4th edition), written by Dr. Jennifer Davis from Wolfson College, Cambridge. This book, with the purpose of providing a concise guide for lawyers, law student and other people who are interested in law, deals with the five main fields of intellectual property law: copyright, trademark, confidential information, patent and industrial designIn the chapter of Copyright, the book introduces the object and subject of copyright, moral rights, copyright infringement, the computer software copyright, etc. in detail, which provides readers with a more comprehensive understanding. Therefore, the source text is of high value to be referred to and translated.During the process of translating, the author finds there are many long sentences in the source text that give the author deepest impression. Therefore, the author analyzes the characteristics and difficulties of long sentences in the source text from syntax. Then, several methods applied to translating long sentences in legal English are concluded. The author hopes that the experience obtained in the course of translation will provide some experience for the future translation practice.
