This is a translation report. The original text is taken from the Intellectual Property Law(4th edition) written by Dr. Jennifer Davis from Wolfson College, Cambridge., With the clue of the emerging, development and evolving of the Intellectual Property Law, this book describes in detail the six main fields of it : copyright, confidential information, unregistered and registered trademark, patent and industrial design and fully explains the essence, implementation conditions and protection scope of the Intellectual Property Law. Furthermore, a number of leading cases from the UK courts as well as the European Court of Justice are referred to as the analytic targets and supporting materials in this book and the more complicated situations in the protection of intellectual property are also discussed. The author has chosen Chapter One of Intellectual Property Law as the translation material which is a brief introduction to the Intellectual Property Law. During the translation process, translating long sentences is the hardest work. The author analyzes the translation difficulties from the aspects of terms and syntax, classifies the sentence patterns and then proposes appropriate translation strategies accordingly. The author hopes that this experience and strategies obtained in the course of the translation can provide reference and guidance for the translation practice in the future.
