Therefore, the English-Chinese translation of tourist text has possessed an extremely important position in the practical style translation.Published in the year of 2014, Lonely Planet: Washington, DC was written by Karla Zimmerman, a great travel author who has written for several Lonely Planet guides to the USA, Canada, Caribbean and Europe. This book is designed to get the travelers straight to the heart of the city. Inside one could find all the must-see sights, plus tips to make the visit really memorable. The expert author have searched out the best of the city: walks, food, nightlife, shopping in order to make the visitors experience the real Washington, DC.Guided by the Skopos Theory, this report utilizes several translation strategies in the process of translation, such as literal translation, free translation, addition, transliteration of proper nouns, adjustment of sentences structure, shift of the part of speech, colloquial expression and four-character structure.This report is divided into four chapters: task description, translation process, case analysis and translation summary. The first chapter introduces the source of the text and the significance of the task. The second chapter contains the preparation of the translation, the difficulties and the solution during the process of translation, the analysis and modification after the first draft.The third chapter, which is the linchpin of the report, gives the case analysis of the task.The last chapter is the translation summary, which includes unsolved problems and thinkings for further study.
