The Research On Overall Instructional Design Of Short-term Teaching Chinese As A Foreign Language

It is obvious that Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language is warmly received around the world. With a large number of learning needs and in-depth teaching research, short-term Chinese teaching has become an important instruction form. The advantages of learning in target language environment attract increasing international universities to extend their teaching in China. Research based on the short-term Chinese language teaching project has become increasingly important.Over the years, the short-term Chinese teaching has been committed to improving the scientific nature of teaching and serve teaching quality better. The theory and method of instructional design provide scientific basis to design and comprehend various levels of Chinese teaching. In this thesis, the author tries to explore the characteristics of short-term Chinese teaching from hands-on practices, reminds there are several problems should be noted during teaching; divides overall instructional design into three modules, firstly to analyze learner characteristics, learners'needs and teaching conditions by survey and interview, then setting the teaching objectives, courses, and teaching content, proposes teaching principles, teaching strategies and teaching evaluation that should be followed in the teaching practice; probes into the instructional design which suits for the Confucius Institute of University of Regina Project; makes a case design of comprehensive course in elementary class to implement the design concepts; summarizes the strengths and weaknesses of the whole design after the project and some suggestions for improvement are proposed.The research of this thesis would further improve the teaching efficiency and promote the development of short-term Chinese teaching. And it is also expected to inspire other such Chinese teaching projects.
