Target readers play a crucial role in the selection of translation strategy. This translation report is written on the basis of translating three chapters of Smart Materials: Chapter 28 Molecular Imprinting Technology, Chapter 32 Ultrasonic Nondestructive Testing and Materials Characterization and Chapter 33 Lipid Membranes on Highly Ordered Porous Alumina Substrates. The target readers are experts, scholars and other people interested in the field of smart material. In order to produce on its readers an effect as close as possible to that obtained on the readers of the original, translation strategy, oriented by target readers, is adopted for the purpose of presenting an accurate and concise translation to target readers.Since English belongs to Indo-European Family, while Chinese belongs to Sino-Tibetan Family, there are many differences between Chinese and English. Therefore, during the process of translation, many strategies are employed to adapt the source information, such as omission, amplification and conversion of word class.Western people attach importance to “Forms”, but Chinese people pay attention to“Ideas”, so the process of logic, which includes the process of logical conjunction, sentence pattern as well as long sentence, is very important during the translation process. In addition, passive voice is used wildly in English and active voice is applied more extensively in Chinese, so the conversion of voice is also inevitable. With the guidance of Communicative Translation, many translation strategies, oriented toward the target-language readers, are adopted during the translation process.Through this translation analysis report, the author has gained a lot from this practice, especially about how to be a good translator and the author hopes that the analysis of this practice will provide references for the translation of bioscientific texts and help to improve the quality of scientific translation.
